Health and Safety: We are required by law to take health and safety seriously – and we do

Health and Safety
One way Summit Scaffolding Bay of Plenty achieve a squeakyclean health and safety record is by initiating intensive and ongoing staff training and certification to keep ahead. Our crew are all certified to Site Safe NZ competency many beyond the basics. In addition, Summit’s supervisors hold next level Site Safe
Gold Cards; most have international qualifications as well as many years’ experience.

As a result, we have injury risk management stats that speak for themselves.

Some of the installation precautions we take to aid and enable an exemplary workplace safety record include:

  • 1000mm wide platforms to provide a safe, weightsensitive and stable base
  • Edge protection and guard rails to keep workers safe and materials enclosed
  • Mobile scaffolding as an alternative to extensive scaffolding to provide fast, safe, easy access to all work areas
  • Temporary fences to keep tools and equipment secure, hazards enclosed, and passing public safe
  • Roof protection adjusted to the pitch angle to prevent falls and protect ground staff
  • Shrinkwrap to weatherproof the building and contain pollutants, dust and debris
  • Propping (falsework) to provide appropriate support equipment to uphold the structure
  • Scaffolding Health and Safety

Having such clear health and safety boundaries creates a trackable follow-on effect

The erection of scaffolding, edge protection, and containment requires a level of training to keep standards in play, and a degree of monitoring to ensure excellent work practices are followed. We are fortunate with our affiliation with governing body SARNZ (Scaffolding, Access and Rigging New Zealand Inc) and Site Safe NZ who assist us with our allegiance to the mandatory SARNZ Good Practice 2016 Guidelines.

We are also proud of our commitment to the Acuite Construction Intelligence Programme a publicly accessible system which monitors Summit’s health and safety performance in realtime and audits all sites regularly.

We are obliged to follow through with compliance on:
The Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (HSWA)
The Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995 (HSE Regulations)
Health and Safety at Work (General Risk and Workplace Management) Regulations 2016 (GRWM Regulations)
SARNZ Good Practice Guidelines for Scaffolding in New Zealand 2016.

Testimonials

“The job was a new roof on my home.

Using the floor plan Summit were able to plan the required scaffold, erected quickly and then were on site early to take it down.

My team was able to focus on the re-roofing and they felt safe at all times.
